FAQ
Is it legal to buy crypto in Chile?
Yes. Buying and holding crypto is not prohibited. It is not legal tender (the SII said so in 2018), and companies that provide services with it — brokering, custody or running trading platforms — fall under the Fintech Law (Law 21,521): they must register with and be authorized by the CMF. Read the regulation guide.
Do I pay taxes on crypto gains?
Yes. According to the SII, gains from selling, swapping or exchanging crypto must be declared. For individuals without a business, the gain is subject to the Global Complementary Tax (or the Additional Tax for non-residents). Read the tax guide.
How do I know if an exchange is authorized in Chile?
Look it up in the CMF's Registry of Financial Service Providers and check that it is authorized for the service it offers you. The CMF is explicit: registration alone does not mean authorization. See how to check.
What is a .eth name?
An ENS (Ethereum Name Service) name that replaces an address like 0x4c2a…9f1b with something readable, such as yourname.eth. A name with 5 or more characters costs US$8 per year, paid in USDC, or less if you pay for several years at once. Read the ENS guide.
